I am a volunteer on a Street Tree Committee here in Coronado. Every year we have a Arbor Day Tree Planting. Last year was rained out but we had 7 dedicated folks help us plant 30 trees throughout the island. One year a Navy family came to help plant trees. A young man of 5 years, came up to me and said Mr. Ron; I am here to plant a tree. We had pies, pizza and drinks ready for the end of the day. I told him with his new gloves, that if he came back with clean gloves this would mean he did not work, so I would not let him have lunch.
After 3 hours his family came back and this young man was bushed, dirty and eye-balling those pies. I know he worked hard and we educate everyone on the importance that trees make in our world. He was very proud of himself. I am certain that in 20 years he will come back and say to his folks, Hey remember that tree we planted? Well look how big it has grown. This was a grand day for our committee. He got his picture in our local paper and has learned the value of how to treat the trees as the treasures they truly are. Keep up the good work everyone.
