On April 27, two trees will be planted in Delta by Mayor Lois Jackson; a native hawthorn will grow in North Delta in a new BC Hydro donated native garden in a utility corridor, and a big leaf maple will grow at Hawthorne Elementary School to be home to bald eagles and hawks. Our special guests will include students, Principal Chansel, and Mary and Luis Arreaga from the United States.
Delta is planting trees to mitigate pollution, provide shade, and provide beauty and homes for its incredible array of wildlife. Its communities all benefit from planting street trees for every building permit and adding trees on public land wherever possible. Delta's trees are its heritage not only to celebrate its forefathers, but also to provide a legacy to those who will come after us.
