Happy Arbor Day!

It's a clear San Diego spring morning after yesterday's soaking rain. Happy trees! What is extra exciting this week is that our condo complex (502 units) is having a "gala picnic and tree party" at noon on Sunday to celebrate our new trees: our three large deodar cedars and dozens of crape myrtles, pink trumpet trees, liquid ambars, star pines--and more--around the complex.

Mayor Art Madrid of our city, La Mesa, California, will come speak, and there will be a Dixieland band, hot dogs and refreshments, Arbor Day tee-shirts, flag and stickers, a May pole with dance instructor--and presentations by our arborist Tom Paulson and board members of our gung-ho "Urban Forest Committee."

Two of the Committee members are also members of the Arbor Day Foundation and regularly share information from your magazine--and even have several crape myrtles and pines they are growing from ones you sent them.

We'll send a follow-up letter and pictures of our tree celebration.
